  • Vybz Kartel was born at Kingston's Victoria Jubilee Hospital on Wednesday January 7th, 1976.
  • Attended Calabar High School in Kingston but never graduated because of expulsion. However, he completed his studies at a tutorial technical school.
  • Began writing his own song lyrics at age 11.
  • Kartel's first stage name was "Adi Banton" which he chose in tribute to his role model Buju Banton.
  • Recorded his first single in 1993 titled "Love Fat Woman" for Alvin's Reid's One Heart Label.
  • Crowned 2002 deejay of the year at Stone Love's 30th anniversary.
  • Wrote songs for Bounty Killer and other members of the Alliance.
  • Assaulted Ninja Man on stage at Sting 2003 but made a public apology four days later settling their differences.
